About

Self Portait, Watercolor, Lynn PowersAs the daughter of Bill and watercolorist Jan Kunz, Lynn has been surrounded by art and artists her entire life. Early on she became fascinated by the various paths artists take to create their personal visual expression. In the 1970s, her interest led her to study Art History at Occidental College in southern California. There she met Jim Powers. They married in 1972.

In 1981, the family moved to Oregon’s Willamette Valley and renewed life on a 4.5 acre plot of land with an aging house. Family occupied their lives for many years. In the mid ’80s, Lynn acquired a degree in graphic design and print technology at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany Oregon. After graduation she started her own free-lance graphic design business, specializing in posters and logos.

In 1998, Lynn and her mother filmed three VHS workshop with a hired production company. Jan and Lynn discovered that the needs of an art workshop were foreign to the standard production company. A production company dedicated to working with artists was needed. In 1999, after their children left the nest, Lynn and Jim started Creative Catalyst Productions, Inc.

The first artist to be filmed was Arleta Pech. To date, they have filmed and produced over 80 workshops. In recent years, Lynn’s focus has shifted to include her own art. She specializes in faces and stylized florals. She is also an avid gardener and unwittingly attracts stray cats. As in the beginning, she is still fascinated by the inner workings of artists. She shares what she discovers in a weekly Creative Catalyst newsletter article titled From Behind the Camera.
